If you haven’t picked up your copy of Static Zine’s second issue yet (First Times In Toronto) available for free at Rotate This!, Sonic Boom, Snakes and Lattes and other cool spots around the city, you can now read about my first time in this creepy situation online! They have the entire issue available for download on the new Static Zine website, as well as up on their Facebook Page, so go read through the whole thing, tons of great first time stories in there.

This is my contribution:

If we weren’t on such a tight word count I would have included that the only reason I stopped in the first place was because he looked like a totally normal non creepy 20something dude, and I was in a great mood that night after seeing The Beauties for the first time at The Dakota (many years ago) so instead of my usual complete brush off of strangers I actually thought alright, I’ll be helpful. Lesson learned.

It would seem I have some kind of draw to this type of weirdo in the city. Feel free to ask me about the first time I was flashed by an insane dude at Trinity Bellwoods Park (my guess is he had recently escaped CAMH), or the first time a guy casually asked “can I eat your pussy” as I walked by him on Yonge Street, or the first time I had a crazy homeless guy follow me to the bus home at Dufferin and King, literally walking right up to me and wispering ‘I Love You’ in my ear. That was the only time I’ve ever been truly scared (to the point of tears) in the city.

I don’t tell these stories for sympathy, and in retrospect the porn one is kind of hilarious (seriously dude? get a better pick up line and don’t troll the same neighborhood every night, so pathetic). I think it’s unfortunately just a fact of life that you will encounter these guys if you’re a girl in a big city who enjoys alone time. I’m not gonna be afraid to walk around by myself just because there are so many power hungry douchebags out there, and encountering these situations so many times over the past 8 years has toughened me up in a good way. It’s hard to intimidate me at this point.

Have you ever encountered these guys? Share your Toronto creeper horror stories with me!
